Heavy, dense and durable, teak is a deciduous tree with fine grain. For outdoor furniture, teak is an excellent choice because of its natural resins. These are inherent oils makes teak resistant to wet weather, spring from drying and resistant to insects.

Find out if your high end outdoor furniture is finely sanded or oiled. Polished teak wood has a natural light tan color and rough texture. Since it is untreated, when exposed to sunlight or outdoors, it will age with a silver gray over time — a desired effect. It needs no treatment except for occasional cleaning.

Clean the teak that has been left outside with a soft or medium brush and mild soapy water. For stains such as bird deposits or dirt is specially developed cleaners that you can use. Hard steel wool or high-pressure washing is not recommended. Sand stubborn spots with fine sandpaper and stroke lightly in the direction of the grain. Wipe all metal furniture but they should not rust because of teak. Wait until the teak dry before oiling overnight is best.

Lay the newspaper under and around furniture. Apply teak oil with a clean brush, starting from the top of the furniture and work your way down. Allow the oil to work in five to ten minutes. Buff with a second cloth after the surface is dry.  Store the high end outdoor furniture, covered with a special weather tarp, in winter or move furniture to a protected area.
